What is Happening in Lekki Tollgate Right Now & Why is “Mr Macaroni” & “#DemNoBornDemPapaWell” Trending?

Following the Lagos State government’s plan to open the Lekki Toll Gate, #EndSARS protesters have taken 13th of February, 2021, for a peaceful protest for the toll gate not to be opened and also using the hashtag #OccupyTollgate.

Barely 24 hours to the set date for the proposed protest, security forces in their numbers, have been put in place at Lekki Tollgate axis.

As noted by guardian, the Lagos State government have reminded those planning another #EndSARS protests in the state to be mindful of the rights of other citizens of the country, stressing that government will do everything in its powers to safeguard the residents

Our attention has been drawn to the planned protest scheduled for Saturday, February 13, 2021, at the Lekki Toll Gate for and against the opening of the Admiralty Toll Gate.”

“The State is aware of Sections 39 and 40 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which guarantees the rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly. However, such right does not permit violation of the rights of other citizens in the state.”

Also, According to Punch, No fewer than 18 protesters have been arrested by security operatives at the Lekki toll gate on Saturday.

It has also been reported that popular Nigerian comedian Debo Adebayo also known as Mr Macaroni has also been arrested.

The comedian joined other protesters at the tollgate to express his dissatisfaction with the decision of the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry allowing the Lekki Concession Company to reopen the Lekki tollgate on Saturday.
