10 Nigerian Upcoming Artists To Look Out For

Even though the year 2020 was a ‘stay home’ year, everyone had to find out that they are good at something and it was a ‘self-discovery’ year for most.

2020 brought about an unexpected turn of events in the music industry as live performances and touring were severed completely.

Fast forward to 2021, various artists have come into limelight and have shown how strong and good they are in the music industry.

From street presence to acts like Tems, Bella Shmurda, Mohbad, Zinoleesky, Ayra Starr and not forgetting Ruger among others.

Here are our 10 artists to look out for as the year rounds up.

Tems

With her popular debut song ‘Try Me,’ Tems have proved that she is more that capable. The singer, song writer and upcoming producer was also featured on one of Wizkid’s hit song ‘Essence’ from his recent album, ‘Made in Lagos’.

Bella Shmurda

Bella Shmurda tiptoed to the spotlight with the viral “Vision 2020” after bubbling under from Lagos State University. His song ‘Cash App‘ became one of the top song vibed to by many.

Shmurda also featured in albums of heavyweights such as Olamide’s Carpe Diem and Davido’s A Better Time. Shmurda is competing alongside Tems, Omah Lay, Oxlade for the highly coveted Headies nominee.

Mohbad

Mohbad signed to Marlian music helmed by Naira Marley, the singer teamed up with in-house producer, Rexxie to deliver “KPK”, one of 2021’s starter hits. The chart-topping record has gone viral and introduced popular slangs like OPP (O Por Pa), KPK (Ko Por Ke), making the rounds in Nigeria’s pop culture. Mohbad closed out 2020 with an 8-track EP, Light with features from Davido, Lil Kesh, and Naira Marley.

His recent song single, ‘Feel Good‘ has gained more interest from listeners as they look forward to hearing more release from him.

Ayraa Star

Ayra Starr, the ‘bloody samaritan’ singer is now well known as her song is being used for TikTok videos.

The Mavin signee who came into the spotlight with her debut single “Away,” gained popularity as she trend on YouTube and has debuted as one of the 20 most played songs on Radio in Nigeria – all in a single weekend. She’s one of the few artists to achieve this kind of success in a very short period.

Ruger

Ruger who made waves with his single ‘Bounce‘ has been on playlists and is one artist to look out for. Ruger whose real name is Michael Adebayo is a Nigerian singer, rapper and songwriter. He is the latest signing to Jonzing World Record label. Ruger’s signing is different from that of Rema’s and has no affiliations with Mavins Records. Ruger who was formerly known as Mikki Drey is another major signing for Jonzing world records after that of Rema’s.

Lojay

Born in April 1996, Kelvin Nnamdi Odenigbo better known as Lojay is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. He came into the limelight after featuring Wizkid in his debut EP ‘LV N ATTN’.

Having developed interests in music at a very young age, Lojay released Ariel in October 2019. He featured superstar singer, Sarz in his hit single Tonongo and Monalisa, as well as working with other artists like Wizkid.

Jaywillz

Jaywillz was born Victor Ime and he hails from Enugu state, after making a name for himself in the eastern part of Nigeria, he decided to move to Lagos.

His move to Lagos has had a positive impact on his career as he now ranks among the list of the best young act in the country.

The young singer has made his name known with his single ‘Medicine‘ from his 2021 extended play, ‘Love or the Word’.

Seyi Vibes

Seyi Vibez is a singer and also a songwriter. He is known for his best songs, writing songs, and more. Seyi Vibez started his career in singing from early life and started his music career in Ikorodu, Lagos State. He gained more popularity with his single ‘Pay Day.’

Flykid

Flykid was born Komolafe Oluwadamilare on the 13th March 1995 in Ogun State, is a Nigeria Singer, Rapper, M.c, and stage performer. Originally from Esa odo Ilesha in Osun State. Based in Surulere, Lagos State Nigeria. Flykid is currently taking his studies at Osun State University Nigeria.

Flykid has worked with other top artists in the industry such as Mohbad, Zinoleesky, Picazo and others.

Swagon Baddest

Elijah Adisa known by his stage name as Swagon is a rapper and stage performer. The rapper who hails from Osogbo in Osun state gained more light to his name with his single ‘Ganja Bill‘.
